Cosmetic Facial Surgery In A Heartbeat?

Article by Julia Taylor

When people are in the process of deciding if they want to have cosmetic facial surgery they often want to know what difference will having the surgery make. There is not an answer that fits for all concerning this.

People seek cosmetic facial surgery for two different reasons. One is to reduce or remove the wrinkles and other signs of aging such as skin sagging or jowls. The other reason is to prevent wrinkles as soon as they start to appear. The results in both situations will be different as far has the difference of appearance following surgery.

The patients who had more obvious wrinkles before the cosmetic facial surgery will see the difference the surgery made quickly as there are wrinkles that have disappeared. They will appear younger with fresher looking skin once the wrinkles and sagging has been taken care of. For the patient having the surgery from more of a preventive stand point the difference will be less obvious.

The patients with the most obvious results frequently report receiving comments from friends and family about the appearance change. They appear more rested. They look more alive. They have a fresh appearance. They look years younger. And one of the great comments they often receive is “you look like you have lost weight”. It is one thing for the patient to see the difference but quite another when associates make comments on their appearance following surgery.

When friends and family share these types of complements the patient’s self esteem shoots through the roof as they receive confirmation from others to what they have seen for themselves. It makes having the face lift surgery all worthwhile since they were having the surgery for appearance and to look younger.

Another frequently asked question prior to surgery from patients is how long the results of surgery last. Again the answer to this question is not an easy one.

When the surgery was performed for prevention or the wrinkles were not very bad it will take a while before wrinkles start to appear. The situations where the wrinkles prior to surgery were many and extensive indicating the aging process is accelerated it may not be too long before sagging and wrinkles reappear. A good rule of thumb is the results should be expected to last between 5 and 10 years.

Cosmetic facial surgery does not stop the aging process it provides improvement and may slow the aging process but not completely stop the process.

Before you undergo surgery you will want to have a frank discussion with your surgeon about your specific results from surgery and what to expect from cosmetic facial surgery
